Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing in the lagoon has been on fire for the past few weeks and I am just glad we have had the rains so we have had fewer forest fires. Reds and trout have been up on the flats along with a tarpon here and there. Don’t be surprised if you see a school of pompano crank by you on the flats. If this happens toss a shrimp (if you have one) out in front of the pompano a good ways in front of them. These fish are often moving at a high rate of speed.
Jeff Stalinga and Tony Gilman joined me for a half-day trip looking for a big redfish. The wind was blowing hard so we had to pull a few tricks out of the hat. They each caught a forty five-inch red on a pigfish for bait. They also caught nice trout while searching for the reds. Then we caught some trout and redfish on 12 Fathom shad bodies. Speaking of shad bodies we have been taking most of our redfish on 12 Fathom shad. The color of choice seems to be pearl and black. You will also take a few trout on the plastics working the flats. Ladyfish and jacks are in the river and around the clinkers islands busting finger mullet.
