Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

It has been raining for two days now but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The past few days have been tough as far as the numbers go six or seven fish per day. The days before I had Steve out and he took his biggest red ever a forty-five inch twenty seven-pound fish. Sight casting to these big fish is a sight to see and thoughts that have got to experience it will always recall the big tails as they break the surface. He also caught five others that were a little smaller, good job Steve. We tossed mullet at them and had no refusals. The trout are up on the flats as well as in the white holes foraging on pigfish and plastics. We took trout to five pounds and were not even targeting them. I have seen a few tarpon rolling in the lagoon and the patient angler can catch them on mullet or flies.
The jacks and ladyfish are thick along the intercostals waterway in the lagoon crashing shrimp and finger mullet. We have tossed 12 Fathom slam’Rs at them and hooked up on almost every cast. This is a good way to let someone experience fighting a fish before targeting the big reds; it will definitely warm their elbows up. The water has been low so be sure you have a boat that will run in the shallows with out ripping the grass beds up.
