Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
June 22, 2004
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Mosquito Lagoon has been giving up plenty of fish these days, and plenty of boats are keeping them moving. Just to list a few of the week’s catches - Steve Snider took ten over slot reds and a trout. Jeff Milhausen and George took eight reds and two trout. The next day Bill Griggs and Danny took twelve over size reds, five black drum and two trout. Jim and John Curtis finished off the week with their larges reds to twenty-three pounds. I bet they are still talking about the one that got away. The weather has been perfect early, then you get saved by the on shore breeze every day late in the morning. With out the breeze it can be down rite hot, so dress for the grill. And don’t forget the sauce.

I want to let every one know that this drum fish season was a big success. Courtney Gerken fish with me in search of the Junior Black drum record this season. She caught a sixty three-pound fish that was just approved. This season Raleigh Werking also joined me in his forever search for records. We broke the six pound record twice this season and are waiting for the results. This makes a total of ten black drum I.G.F.A. records we have taken. Raleigh and I share a space on a placket in The Fishing Hall of Fame. The placket is under the ninety and a half pound (replica) black drum record we broke several years ago. I am honored to have my name present amongst such great anglers from before my day. Even better news I don’t throw trash out of my truck or my boat. And yes cigarette butts do count in that trash list as well. Have a nice day.
