Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
July 30, 2007
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The lagoon has been going off these days with great redfish action on top water plugs. It has also been a special week because I have fished grandfather and grandson, father and daughter, and father and sons. This hits home to me and almost always brings a tear to my eye. It means so much to spend quality time with your kids, make the time! I had Charles Liska and his grandson Mike out for a morning of fishing and they caught thirteen redfish. John Brauner brought his daughter (10 Y/O) Savannah on a fishing trip she requested they take on their vacation this summer. Savannah was quite the trooper she fought redfish till she basically passed out on the deck of the boat. I told her she was going to have broses from the rod digging in her. She just kept on cranking and smiling. The next day I had Chris and his son Mike out, they took over twenty reds and some trout on top water plugs. So it was an uplifting kind of a week. When the weeds were thick this week we went to our (go to bait) weekless Gulp Guarantee rig.

The trout we have been taking on top water have been nice size to about five pounds this week. We had a few straighten our hooks this week as well, I image they were a little bigger. One day this week was slow; we had about twenty-seven blowups on the top water plugs and caught six or seven fish. We fished top water all day, the hook up ratio was not good but the hart pounding blow-ups were awesome. Later that day I talked to some of the other guides in the aria that were fishing pigfish. They had said the live bait bite was off and they had fewer fish to show that day. Some times I think the top water plug just pisses them off, and covers a lot of water. Tarpon ya there around, as well as the snook. I have been seeing some tarpon on the flat but they have been smaller fish. The water dropped out about a week ago and the big fish are only on selected flats. The lady fish are around in good numbers for some hi flying action. Mangrove snapper are in the Indian River along the channel and rock piles. So if you want to catch some fish just call me and I will guarantee you will! 386 314 5656
