Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Joe Porcelli
January 1, 2008
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Happy New Year! The reds have been happy on the flats in the Mosquito Lagoon with waving tails on the major feeds. They were bunched up tight last week and then the water warmed up and spread the field a little. Chris Everett brought his dad Lonnie out a few days ago and caught about twenty reds. The next day he had good friend Big Mike out and they did just as well. This next week the temp. is going to drop and they will bunch up again. The trout will make their way back into the deeper water and they will be easy to catch, but many will be small. Use a Gulp 3” pogy or Gulp shrimp on a 1/4 ounce jig head and bounce or drag it on the bottom. We have been catching big trout but the majority of them have been on the flat. A few fat flounder have been caught with some in the eight-pound range. You will catch them while fishing for your trout in the holes.

We have been taking some black drum as well and yesterday we caught drum to twelve pounds on the flats. Fish these drum with a Gulp crab or shrimp and slow everything down. They are not as aggressive as the reds or trout and can be challenging at times.

Remember think like a fish to catch fish or just call me. 386-314-5656
