New Smyrna Daytona Beach Backcountry Redfish Seatrout

Capt. Michael Savedow
November 8, 2014
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Water levels have returned to a lower normal after the flood levels of last month here on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon Florida. Redfish can again be found over the spotty bottom, grass edges, flats drop offs, and locations back to a normal water depth of 1 to 2 feet deep. Clarity is improving as water temperatures drop with the seasonal cooling taking place here in the New Smyrna / Daytona Beach / Orlando area. As winter nears, water will become clear and colder through out all of our coastal inland saltwater backcountry, temperatures now around 70' will continue dropping to winter levels of upper 50's to low 60's by years end. Redfish will begin their winter schooling pattern as temps chill and water levels continue lower also during our dry season coupled with prevailing north winds. Bait fish will be less prevalent, moving feeding patterns more to shrimp for the winter months, smaller size baits and lures will be the best bet during the cold water patterns to come which will then be in place until next spring. Amanda, John, and Shawn caught 5 Redfish up to 26" on a breezy day during October, Amanda with one of her fish from the morning...............................

Also doing some fun backcountry mixed bag afternoon fishing catching many Trout, Snappers, Sheepshead, even a couple small Redfish.
