Summer 2014 mosquito lagoon daytona beach to new Smyrna

Capt. Michael Mann
July 2, 2014
Mosquito Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

The summer is here and with it we have a few different species of fish we can target of the biggest the tarpon . We have had tarpon around for about a month both in the lagoon and on the beach . These are ranging from juveniles under 50 lbs to the big boys up to 150lbs with a few larger the. 150. For the tarpon fisherman patiences is def a virtue they can bite I. The first five min of the trip or the last but when they do hang on these are truly feisty game fish . We are seeing the tarpon around the bridges from Daytona beach down into the flats of the New Smyrna's mosquito lagoon.
For the anglers interested in other species the red fish and trout fishing from Daytona down to New Smyrna has been great most days with limits coming using mostly live bait such as pig fish or mullet but good catches can come on top water and jerk baits . I still have a few openings in July and lots open in August this is a great time of year to get the younger less experienced anglers into fishing .
As always tight lines
Capt. Mike Mann
