groupers and kings

Capt. Michael Avinon
April 2, 2010
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have not had time lately to leave a report because we have been fishing everyday. The fishing has been really good the last couple of weeks with lots of snappers and a few amberjacks. The last two days the groupers have been open and on the first day we struggled with gettin fish off of the bottom. The day after a full moon can be the toughest time to catch a keeper grouper. The fish dont want to move very far and are not hungry. You have to lay a bait right on there nose and wait for a while. We did really well on the snappers and kings,24 snappers to 25" and school sized kings with one fish over 30pds.Today we caught a few kings up to 12pds and had a limit of gag groupers to 28".

Naples Fishing Forecast:

The kings have shown up in full force with to 30 pds common,it only gets better from here on out. There are still a few gags around but will soon be gone, the red groupers will start moving in soon. There are still red groupers offshore and it will only get better as it warms up.Everything is running about a month behind schedule so May should really be a great month for fishing.Ive also added a 17 mako for nearshore and backwater trips starting Mon the may 1.In the mako we will target spanish and king mackeral, permit, cobia, and goliath grouper all spring. In the back bays well be fishing for snook, trout, jacks, and redfish.Well also target tarpon on the beach when they show up.

More Fishing Reports:

I have been operating out of Naples for over twenty years and have the spots to prove it.With a range of over 400 miles and the speed to get there quickly the options are endless. We are consistently one of the top producing boats in sw florida, stop by the city dock and see for yourself.
