Nearshore Fishing and Some Dolphins

Capt. Ted Gibson
December 9, 2016
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The crew was determined to go today, so we went for it anyways even though conditions were not ideal. Saw Dolphins at the pass and elected to call that the Dolphin portion of the trip and head a little further than we normally do on a combination charter. Dropped down the lines and immediately started to get grunts and a few mangroves at the end of the outgoing tide. As the tide slacked off so did the bite. Waited the water out and after it started to move again we started picking up fish again. Hooked and lost some bigger things to the rocks; I'm thinking Gags. Ended up having a King Mackerel grab one of our big baits and after we landed it elected to run back inshore and look for wildlife. We warmed ourselves up and idled through the mangroves and checked out some birds and a pod of Dolphins that decided to play in the wake of the boat. Tough crew today; had a great time!
