Quick scouting of the local Naples beaches 4/30/09

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Having just returned from some epic Cutthroat Trout fishing at Pyramid Lake, Nevada, I was curious to see how the Snook are moving into our local beaches. There have been a good number of fish around the last few days, with a few fish caught by friends, so that perked my interest. Unfortunately when I got to the beach, the gulf was flat calm, crystal clear, and the tide was a little too low for my liking. I only stayed down there about 2 hours, and only saw a handful of Snook all of which had lockjaw. I did however, score a nice Jack on the flyrod as it swam up the beach with 3 others at warp speed!! It pays to spot them a ways off, because they swim FAST and you have limited time to take a shot. Snook action will improve with better mid-morning tides in a few days. The beach fishing here is extremely tide-dependent, with few exceptions. By June it will be wide open for Snook on both coasts!! Grab your fly or spin tackle and come get yours!!

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Fishing is fair-good right now with decent tide sets. Winds have been favorable....moderate, but out of the east which does not affect the beach one bit. Water is clear and surf is extremely calm (in the mornings). Snook action will only get better as summer approaches. June thru September typically marks the peak of beach Snook fishing, with some days producing 30+ fish!!

Target Species:

Snook
