Reds still going strong here!

Capt. Todd Geroy
February 9, 2011
Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have had ever changing conditions here in the last week. From a couple near summer like days late last week to some strong cool NW winds yesterday. The fishing has been ever changing as well. We ended last week finding some giant sheepshead near the passes with some of them going nearly 5 lbs. We also had good luck with trout in the channels near the passes using jigs on the incoming tide. On one trip Lyle Ackerman boated one that was 22 inches weighing over 4 lbs! Water temps were as high as 71 by Saturday. Here is Lyle and his wife Jeanie with a nice back-country trout...

Early this week we had the tail end of a cold front slide through bringing cooler temperatures and some windy conditions Monday and Tuesday. Fishing was a little tough given the fact that the exposed bays were very muddy and strong winds limited where we could fish easily. We made due though, catching several smallish redfish along with some decent mangrove snapper and several snook on each trip.

Today (Wednsday) conditions settled down as I fished with a group of three of my bi-monthly anglers for a half day. We hit a redfish bonanza! Jay, Bob and Tom boated over 30 in 3 hrs. of fishing with several falling in the slot. The largest was a fat 28 incher caught by Bob Potter which weighed in at 9 lbs. All fish were caught on live and cut shrimp in the Johnson Bay area on the incoming tide. Water temps on the inside bays were about 65 degrees. Here is Bob Potter with a large redfish caught and released today...
