Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back at the reports sorry I have been on vacation. I wish the report was a great one. Not bad not Great just in the middle. Good news though brighter days on the horizon.

This weeks fishing has been mixed. I have had some very good days and some not so good days. The first part of the week on the morning outgoing has been very good with good numbers of keeper Snook with a few Reds thrown in for good measure and a couple of jumped Tarpon. The later part of the week has showed a steady decline in the aggressiveness of the fish to take anything including plug, bait, or fly. This is most likely due to week tides we are having right now. Even the night fishing last night was lack luster. I am not saying we didn’t catch anything, but for the area we were fishing it was slow. 8 Snook and one Tarpon Jumped. We definitely saw plenty of Snook and Tarpon, they just did not aggressively bite the fly. I am sure it was tide related, I do not believe it moved more than 4 inches the whole time we left the dock till we returned, even though we were supposed to have a decent outgoing tide all night it never materialized.

The bright side of it all is the tides are going to steadily improve thru the weekend and into next week. By Sunday the fish should be back and in business again. Coming up to the Full Moon on the 25th. On the full moon phase I like to fish the early evening into the night, this is usually much better than the morning into the day. If you want to fish the morning don’t fret you will still have plenty of action, you just need to start a little earlier and get off the water a little earlier. The good bite is usually over by ten o’clock on the full Moon phase.

Snook and Tarpon will still be in the passes and will stay their until the bait leaves or the weather turns cool. The back country still has plenty of Snook and this will get better going into November. Redfish that have moved into our waters are starting to spread out on the flats, finding much less concentrations of them and more cruising fish. This should keep getting better as the weeks go by and the water cools even more. If you are into offshore you might want to get out and get into the fun. The offshore captains are telling me that it is on fire with Kingfish and Cobia just about everywhere out in the gulf. I know this to be true because I am catching them right off the beach. As long as the bait concentrations stay high. the fish will be here. That is all for this week, sorry it is so long but there is a lot going on in the fishing world. Good casting Rz.
