Tarpon Heating Up

Capt. Chris McCubbin

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past 10 days fishing has been red hot. The only problem in Naples is the bait situation, its almost non existent. The last five days has been really hard to find pilchards. I have had to go to big threads which I personally don't like to much in the backwaters.
Snook fishing remains solid with some nice fish being caught. I have not got any big fish for a while, but the fish are nice. I have been fishing the docks, passes, rock walls, and even the beaches when the wind allows me to. There are also some nice redfish being caught in the back bays towards Marco Island.
The big thing to report is the tarpon have made a strong showing this week. This morning I went on a scouting mission with a couple good friends. We loaded up on nice threads and we instantly found fish off the beaches. We put out three rods with small corks and just drifted. We ended up 3-5 in a couple hours. Then the sharks crashed the party and you couldn't keep a bait away from them.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

Bait should begin to push back into the area and the fishing will continue to be good. Look for nice snook on the beaches and tarpon in 12-25 feet of water.

Target Species:

Snook and Tarpon

More Fishing Reports:

Specialize in light tackle fishing for tarpon, snook, redfish, trout, and sharks in the backwaters and coastal Gulf of Mexico of Marco Island, Naples, Estero Bay and Sanibel Island. I have spent my whole life fishing and learning the great fishery we have in Naples, Fl. Im known for being very easy going, hard working and great with all skill levels.
