Windy, Dreary Weather Doesn't Stop the Snook Action in Naples!

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report
We have now had 12 consecutive days of unusual westerly winds here in SW Florida. Rough seas have put a damper on our chances to fish for tarpon on the outside where we normally fish this time of year. While that has been a huge disappointment this season, we have been enjoying some terrific snook action.
The snook are schooled heavily in area passes as well as around or under any nearby structure such as docks and fallen brush. If one is brave enough to battle the waves just offshore and catch live bait fish, they will be rewarded with constant snook action on both tides.
There are some redfish mixed with the snook in the same areas. Most are falling in the mid slot although we have also release a few to 32 inches in the last couple of weeks.
I fished 5 days straight with Martin Marlow and his two sons, Josh and Bruce last week. They make the trip down from New York annually and really hit the snook hard. This year was no exception! We fished both day and evenings each day and the trio released at least a couple hundred snook during the week as well as some nice redfish. Live baits as well as soft plastics and flies all took fish.

Naples Fishing Forecast:
Hopefully the winds will settle down next week giving us a chance to get in on what ever is left of the annual tarpon migration. Juvenile tarpon are scattered in the shallow back bays and usually get better this time of year when the rainy season kicks in. Snook should continue strong the rest of the month. Early and late in the day are the best times to go after them with artificial baits.
