Wow we had some cold days but fishing didn't seem to suffer.

Naples - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, the cold seems to be over for now and the water temps are rising for the Naples and Marco area. February and March Fishing will pick up as long as we have No more cold. Not that fishing was all that bad throughout the cold spells. We were catching quite the number of Pompano and Trout all throughout the cold. The Snook Fishing was not so great but what can you do. The other species seemed to be plentiful like Ladyfish, Jacks and Sheepshead. It seemed just about any deeper channel near a flat had them and a shrimp tipped Surgical tube Jig they couldn't resist. Night time Fly fishing for Snook remained pretty good even though it was cold they still fed under the lights. Now that the water has risen back to about 70 degrees the Tarpon are even showing back up and the Big Marco Snook bit fairly well last night. We even caught one about 29 inches. Bass fishing in the Everglades is picking back up and should get stronger.

Naples Fishing Forecast:

What is the fishing going to look like for the end of February and the beginning of March you ask? Well here goes if there is no more cold the bait will get more plentiful and all the typical summer species will return to the feed. Hint, that is already happening as of today. I would still expect a few more late fronts to come through though. I believe we will still be fishing winter species till we reach March at least. If we have good weather in the first weeks of March Expect to be fishing for the big laid up Tarpon in the Bays near to deep water. The big girls will start laying up and catching some rays looking for a mullet meal or two. Try a Rz's HJB Fly in White or Purple in 3/0 they cannot resist them. The big female Snook will be making there ways to the passes and then into the bays near the passes and then eventually some will start cruising the back country bays and creeks. Happens every year No lie. We should still be catching plenty of fish throwing jigs tipped with shrimp. Same as this month Trout and Pompano will be your main targets. Real good time to catch the Grand Slam with Tarpon, Snook, Trout, and Redfish. The freshwater fishing will be getting better everyday. All the canals in the glades will be dropping in water and the temps will rise and the fishing will get gooood. Large catches on Fly and plug tackle will be starting to be made. I mean you can catch over 100 bass a day with just as many Chiclids thrown in. This includes some peacock bass if any made it through this years cold. Well no excuses get out and fish. Good Casting Roan z.

Target Species:

Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, Trout, Pompano and largemouth bass,
