Summer patterns have arrived on Mosquito Lagoon

Capt. Michael Savedow
June 2, 2013
New Smyrna Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 2013 is here, school is out for the kids, the busy summer vacation and charter fishing season has arrived here at Daytona Beach, New Smyrna, and Orlando Florida. We will be out often the next few months chasing fish on Mosquito Lagoon. Redfish are in their warm water pattern, most schools have broken up, singles, pairs, and small groups are the summer norm. Water levels rising as we are getting some seasonal afternoon rain showers, and cloudier water means baits and lures with either scent or sound for fish to home in on. My flats trips this time of year are a usually a mix of poling and hunting the shallow grass flats for Reds then also fishing edges, drop offs, and holes with live pigfish when available for Seatrout. Regular client grandpa Bruce brought his son Dan and grandson Chris on a flats trip with me a couple weeks ago catching a half dozen good Reds. Grandpa caught the largest of the trip, an over slot 28" fish making him all smiles for the camera before it's release.

Just a couple days ago Dr Tim, wife Cathy, and the kids came with me on one of my Edgewater Backcountry mixed bag trips, catching several different species including Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Ladyfish, Jack Crevalle, and topped off with this beautiful multi spot Redfish caught by Cathy.

Always a great nature experience on every trip to add to the fun of chasing the fish, Dolphins up close and personal on just about every trip out, and a great chance of Manatee sightings on most summer trips also, as well as many different bird species on every trip keeps it interesting for the nature lovers such as myself.
