Orlando, FL - Lake Toho, Clermont Chain & The Kissimmee Chain

Orlando - Freshwater Fishing Report

Clermont Chain

Today we spent the day out on the beautiful Clermont Chain of lakes. With the rains from Hurricane Wilma last week, the waters have come up a good deal and has appeared to have pushed the bass back into the heavy cover and into the swamp areas. We started the day by flipping tight to cover in the river, and deep into cover, we spotted a small pothole 15 feet off the river, we are talking a small patch maybe a half a foot round surrounded by nothing but heavy nasty cover, flipping a Kicker Kraw in watermellon Red yielded a nice 3 pounder and a broken rod. The bass were way back in the slop and thats a risk you take when you go that far back.

From there we moved over to Cherry Lake, working spinner baits and shallow running Frenzy cranks, Fire Tiger was the color, picking up 4 in and around scattered grass patches up to 5 pounds.

We did manage 2 others on the white spinnerbait and one other on a black/yellow swirl horny toad before calling it a day. The rains and higher waters have scattered the bass away from the areas we generally catch them so we really had to search and work hard for our catch today, but thats all in a day of fishing. Waters have cooled down to 70 this morning, 74 by noon time and with Clermont Chain that has always seemed to dictate a deeper bite, normally we can run 2 to 4 feet and locate them, now they have been coming in 4 to 6 feet Presentation didnt seem to matter, some hit on a fast retrieve and some hit on a slow retrieve, but all were aggressive hits, one thing that sets Clermont apart from alot of other areas we have fished, when you get hit you know it and they have a great fight to them.

Our site has just had major updates to it with the addition of a few more lakes added along with saltwater trips, and we will also have updated reports on our site now, with older reports being accessable on our archives page for future reference.

Till my next report, tight lines and great fishing!!!
