March is here, marking the beginning of spring break. March is also know as the windy month. High winds prevail as warm tropical air pushes from the east and south east. The fun in the sun begins and spring season is on the horizon.
Snook action continues to thrive near docks and seawalls, bigger fish are lurking in shadow lines ambushing baits that pass there vicinity. Low lying docks are producing best bite, look for baits in the area as to clues to were snook might be. Top Heddon spooks worked with a walk the dog pattern causes for massive explosions. Live baits and jigs worked near deeper edges of docks and seawalls produce action as well. Smaller schoolie snook are plentiful around mangrove edges, flukes and white baits entice many fish to strike. This warmer weather pattern has the snook active and the mullet run is just around the corner its going to get exciting in the next few weeks.
Huge jacks are hovering seawalls in search of bait, these fish are schooled up and many of the fish are reaching the 20 pounds class. Live mullet or a top water plug and be ready for a wild ride and serious muscle aches. Smaller jacks are taking jigs worked near the bottom, once a school is located you can hook a fish almost every cast.
Trout fishing is still steady and spring is well known for producing big gator trout. Live baits soaked near edges of flats great technique, but artificial enthusiasts, jigging is the best method. Bass Assassin lure makes great trout baits I prefer green colors for the best action, jig heads in 1/8 to 1/2 ounce will get the bait to the strike zone.
Tarpon fishing is hit or miss. Early morning usually has fish active but once sun is up bite shuts down, evening as well produces fish in the 10 to 40 pounds class. Work canals and inter coastal channels for best results,
