Palm Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
"April" the wind continues to dictate fishing strategies for us anglers. Seas are consistently lumpy and the choppy inshore waters have vanished memories of calm slick waters we should be receiving, this time of year. All in all the fishing inshore continues to shine producing great catches.
The bays and open flats are full of snook lurking near baits schools. Snook are ambushing mullet schools around structured area, willing to take live mullet but jigs and top water plugs as well. Both sides of the tides are producing fish, plenty of Cuban snook around docks and sea walls and deep holes. Common snook are roaming shallow waters ambushing baits as well. Docks are great areas to use jigs working shadow area for best results. Top water plugs during low light hours get the drag screaming and the heart pumping. Night fishing is producing fish as well later the better for bigger fish.
Tarpon are in channels and mangrove areas, lots of juvenile tarpon around right now. These small tarpon are very active displaying acrobatic leaps for anglers on the other end of the rod. Live baits, jigs and jerk baits are the best choices for the silver kings. Rolling fish can be seen helping locate the bigger schools, average size of the tarpon has been 2 to 20 pounds.
The jacks are very active all day long, offering plenty of drag screaming active along sea walls. A live mullet pitched out near the structure, does not last long as the schooling fish fight for the free meal. Jigs and top water plugs worked sporadically get the jacks attention.
Sheepshead are thick and offer great sight fishing for kids. Live shrimp and fiddler crabs get the rods bent and put smiles of achievement on the youngsters faces. Pilings, docks and downed trees excellent areas to find the sheep's. Light leader and small hooks help produce more strikes.
