Palm Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Cool fronts and rain have caused tough conditions at times. The rain has been non stop and the flood gates from freshwater spillways are being dumped into our Inter coastal waterways. This event is causing serious damage to our habitat and local lagoons.
Tarpon fishing has been great in the ICW and inside the local inlets. The bigger tarpon are grouped up hanging near deep channel edges and drop offs. These tarpon are ranging in size from 20 to 80 pounds, they are picky at times best bet, fish the out going tides using live baits or DOA bait busters worked along the bottom for best results. The smaller tarpon are in the back bays and canals taking heedon spook jrs , DOA CAL jerk bits and live baits worked in there vicinity. The tarpon can be seen near the surface allowing anglers to pin point were the bait should be presented.
Snook fishing has been ok, the abundance of freshwater has driven the fish into local inlets and areas were clean water is present. DOA Cal jerk baits, DOA swim baits and live mullet will get your drag screaming once you locate the snook. Docks and sea walls great places to locate the snook as well, using DOA CAL and DOA 4 inch paddle in glow and gold glitter and Arkansas glow for best results. Spillway and local bridges are holding fish as well work first of out going tide for best results.
Freshwater the bits has been great for the largemouth bass in the palm beach chain canal. Live shiners and artificial baits the like the DOA trick worm in watermelon fleck worked along shorelines and docks producing great catches. Peacock bass are active high noon striking fast moving DOA Cal 4 inch jerk baits and DOA shrimp along seawalls and sandy shorelines.
