Palm Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore Fishing Report 12/21/2006
Jupiter/Palm Beach, FL
Well first off Merry Christmas to everyone, may all your Christmas wishes be granted. The fishing the past few weeks has been great. The grass flats have been invaded by Lady Fish. These aggressive fish have been hitting tipped jigs with shrimp and Docs Goofy jigs. The Ladyfish have been in 2 to 9 feet of water and have been schooled up. The Ladyfish, aka “Poor Mans Tarpon” make for excellent fun on the fly rod do to their drag screaming runs and great leaps. The Pompano bite has picked up on the flats also with most of the fish landing in the slot limit. The Pomp’s are ranging from 12 to 15 inches in length, and have been hanging in depths of 2 to 7 feet. The best baits for the Pompano have been ¼ ounce yellow jigs tipped with shrimp. Also on the flats have been small Black Drum, Lane Snapper, and small Mutton Snappers. Sea Trout Season is still closed but is just around the corner. Trout season opens back up Jan 1, 2007.
The Lox River fishing has been great with many days producing a mixed bag of Snook both Fat and Common, Jacks, Snapper, Pompano, and Ladyfish. The Snook have been caught near dock pilings and Sea walls. The best bait for the Snook has been live Greenies. The Common Snook have been ranging form 18 to 30 inches and the Fat Snook 18 to 22 inches. As long as the tide is moving the Snook will bite, remember SNOOK SEASON CLOSED DECEMBER 15. The Jacks have been flooding in with the incoming tide these huge schools of fish will hit top water plugs and any live bait put in there path. The Jacks have been ranging from 1 to 20 pounds; these fish will wear you out fast, and make your body ache. The mangrove snapper bite has been great with many of the fish ranging from 10 to 15 inches. These little fish will take live shrimp, and dead or live greenies.
The night fishing has been excellent for Snook even though Snook season is closed they are still fun to catch on a Fly rod and light tackle. Just about every dock light is holding Snook. Live shrimp or greenies have been working great free lined with the tide. The bigger Snook have been on the outside shadows waiting to ambush baits as the pass by. Outgoing tide has produced the most fish on the past outings.
Sorry no freshwater report, have not been doing much bass fishing.
