Fall Time in Panama City

Capt. Scott Fitzgerald
October 3, 2009
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

So Sorry for not writing reports lately but I have had some boat problems so I took some time off to do some much needed repairs and now I am ready to run again. So as the fall months approach rapidly. And the days get shorter and shorter the fishing gets better and better. Some of the best fishing of the year is right now. I have not seen fishing like this all year. The bull red's are moving in. Some of my good friends have reported some really big red's showing up on the jetties. The mangrove snapper are there to as I have seen them on many snorkel trips, as I have not been able to go fishing due to a broken boat. I have been looking forward to the flounder that are starting to move in and should be real good as the full moon comes on. I will let you know soon as I will start looking for them soon as I love to eat them this is a great eating fish. The trout fishing should be getting better as The fish are getting ready to move into the canales. I had some trouble finding good numbers of the trout earlier in the year. But I still found some really big fish after taking time to search for them. Unfortunately many of my inshore trips we had trouble find the trout. As for the offshore the fishing is going off in a big way the Amber Jack are more active than I have ever seen them. They are on most of the wrecks and I even found them on the whistle buoy. They are more than willing to come right to the boat.

I went out twice last week and had Amber Jacks so thick I could not get a bait past them catching them on top with every thing I threw at them I even tried stuff to get them not to bite but they ate that to. Poppers, Jigs and plastics Hard to believe but I caught one on a bare hook I just slapped it against the water and there were so many fish under the boat that one grabbed it before he got a good look at it I could not believe it my self.

It was so bad that I got tired of catching them and went looking for something else. If you are a fly fisherman this is your time to consistently catch these hard fighting fish make sure to bring at least an eight-weight rod or they will break it. I then went to the weather buoy and finally found some small kings and Bonita nothing real big but the king should start migrating back any day now with most of the big ones showing up a little farther off shore. I found a good weed line at 7 miles off but did not find any good fish there I did not spend a lot of time on it as I was running out of daylight. I had trouble getting a good grouper, as the snapper would not leave the bait alone long enough for the grouper to find it. This was one of the best trips I have been on in a long time. If you love fishing you need to come down to Panama City and get some of this!!!! Sorry not a lot of pics on this trip as I was alone and its hard to take pics of my self. I spent a lot of money to get my boat fixed and took a lot of time off so if u book a trip in October I will give you 1 free hour that's 5 hours for $300 for a four person trip WOW!!!!! Please help me make the money back and get the trip of a lifetime. Call now 850-867-2952 Thanks for a great year!!!
