Panama City Spring Break Redfish and Trout Top-Water Action

Capt. Rob Womble
March 7, 2008
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

The waters around the Panama City area are still a little cloudy. The rains we had a couple weeks ago combined with the on again off again rains we are currently having are keeping the water cloudy. The good news is that the fishing is starting to heat up a bit. Right now we are catching some really nice redfish and trout. On the positive side of this darker water is the fact that most of the Redfish you are going to catch will be holding a nice deep copper color.

The fish up on the flats are holding up in some of the deeper potholes in the shallower water. If you do not know were some of these potholes up on the flats are….well you are not going to find them with or current water conditions. The good news is that with the darker water they have been a little more eager to hit those top-water plugs than usual. The water temp is climbing but still a little cool so you will get a lot of near misses with the top-waters. Have a second rod rigged up with a spoon or a spinner. Toss that dude in the area of the miss and you should have a good shot. If you really want to improve your odds…..tip the spinner or the spoon with Gulp scented bait.

Here are a couple photos of this week's action.

Even I get in on the action from time to time.

Trout like these are starting to show up in good numbers in the shallows.

As always good luck on the water and watch out for the other guy.
