Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
August 18, 2005
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City, NW Florida

Not much has changed with the trout and reds since my last report. When we target reds we are catching at least six or seven each time.....we also continue to catch a lot of big trout. I had a single, John Dodrill about a week ago and we caught nine reds, 16 or 17 legal trout one of which was 8 lbs and one 6 lbs. We did this in about two hours and then went to a grouper hole in the bay and caught a couple of keeper grouper.

Grouper in the bay has been good this year, we have boated 11 legals, one thirty inches in the last week. Look for this to continue and the flounder to start thickening up.

The full moon coming up in a few days should trigger the fall migration of the spanish macks which will be big and thick through Thanksgiving.

The only changes i expect over the next 30 to 45 days is for the fishing to continue to be good and get better.

Now for another subject. One of my customers informed me that i was as much as $100 less than some of my competition in the area. I will be charging a $25 gas surcharge since gas has gotten out of control. As to my prices versus some of the other guides....my prices are fair....but if I charged according to what I do compared to some (most) of the other guides in town my trips would be twice as much as thiers. From the reports that i hear and what i see out on the water it takes them two or three trips to catch what i do in one morning.....that's a fact and i can send you some testimonials if you would like.

Bottom line is if you fish with someone else chances are your paying to much and not catching enough fish.

Good luck on the water

Capt. James Pic
