Florida Fishing Report for Panama City & Destin

Capt. James Pic
February 15, 2006
Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida

Please refer to my "How to pick a fishing guide" in the February 4 report. Remember....cocky is ok if you can back it up.

Took a flyfisherman to the Hot Water Canal this morning. Immidiately ran into a big school of ten pound jacks boating two pretty quick. We fished black clousers and caught a lot of small trout throughout the morning.

Each year big schools of sailcats move into Warren Bayou during February. Although some people don't put much stock in catching them, anyone that has ever hooked a 10 pound sailcat on an 8wt rod knows how much fun they can be. Larry caught 6 before they moved on.

Next week a warm up is predicted and some of the trout and reds will start staging, getting ready to move onto the flats. There are some reds in shallow water but they see you when you see them. If your persistant you can find a school every now and then ready to eat and then the fun begins.

If the warm up last's for any amount of time, my records indicate that the spanish will arive sometime between the full moon and new moon in Marh...around the 20th. Hopefully the rain will hold off and let the fish into the bay. Last year the water was fresh and murky and the spanish run, although good, was not as strong as it could have been.

I'm booking a lot of trips so make sure you get your dates set as soon as possible. Won't be to long now till the fishing get's into full swing.

tight lines, jp

More Fishing Reports:
