Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
These are the kind of spanish that have been moving into the bay the last few days. With the new moon came a bait hatch and the fish followed. Been catching a lot of five, six and bigger spanish both on live bait and on the fly.
Yesterday morning Marty York was able to put a fly into fish boiling all around the boat. Bait is easy to get and plentiful for the non fly fishermen.
Trout and redfish catches like this have been common throughout the summer. Although I cannot say a 9 or 10 pound trout has been put on the boat just yet, we have put 8 fish over six and a couple over 7lbs in the boat so far. My good trout spots start heating up next month. My basic four and six hour ($300/$375) is spent half catching reds and trout and half catching big spanish and other palegics. Yes, it's not unusual to catch several reds and some big trout in a couple of hours.
August is also a good month for grouper in the bay. Last year we had one that measure 30 inches.
It is, and always has been, to put each person I fish with on as many good fish as possible during their trip to Panama City. I hope that every guided fishing trip out their could be as good as what I and some of the other guides, like Terry McGowan and Philip Money offer. Unfortunately when you hire a part timer or a new guide your probably not going to do to well. Stay with the old school guides, we been doin' it a long time and can always find fish.
