Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
Sometime's there is more to look at than fish. This had to be one of the most beautiful sunrise ever.
Fishing has been easy and hard. The hot days of summer, dolphins on some of the spots and no wind can make for uncomfortable trips. Good thing I'm off the water every day around 10 a.m.
This trout along with about thirty more were caught on the fly by John White out of Tupelo MS. We took the boat down to Crooked Island for a day of trout, reds, blues and spanish. Although there was a small group of manatee's around us we didn't get any photos of them. Most of these fish were caught on light colored clouser minnows.
We have starting catching reds, like the one pictured below, in the pass. Live crabs, finger mullet and ly's seem to work the best.
Everything is going great and the fishing is good. Some days we get a lot of trout and reds, some days a lot of spanish and a few trout. Look for everything to start really picking up with the end of this moon phase. The best fishing of the year will be starting very soon.
No matter what you hear or read; live bait, let me say it again, live bait is the best. Whatever your catching with artificial you can double or triple that catch if you have the right live bait. I love to fish with the fly rod and anyone that knows me will tell you topwater is my second favorite, but this time of the year, live bait is the only way to go.
Remember, only fish with full time guides, especially this time of the year when the fishing can be tough. We are out there every day and know where the fish are.
Good fishing,
Capt. James Pic
