Panama City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Panama City/NW Florida
Winter Special: BOOK A HALF DAY AT REGULAR PRICE GET THE NEXT DAY HALF OFF.
I recently went to Cancun and then further south to Punta Allen Mexico with six of my buddies on a "busmans holiday".
Our original destination was blown out by a storm so we were lucky enough to get the Palameto Club to step in and honor our reservation. Thank you Dick.
The club was first class and the accomodations first rate. Food was authentic and wonderful and the guides were all knowledgable and professional. Since I already have my backcountry slam on the fly, (snook, tarpon, bone in the same day) i wanted a chance at a permit. Although I managed to see many I was not able to get one on the fly. One of my partners, Ray Mallory, managed to get one on spinning gear the last day.
The resort is great for catching bones and reef species such as yellowtail and mutton snapper, various jacks and cuda's. There are a lot of permit in the area for those looking for their first permit.
Here are some pictures of the trip.

If you get a chance to go it's a beautiful place to fish.
DUCK HUNTING
Game and fish has seen an increase in the number of duck hunting citations this year. For the first time ever we are seeing a lot of blantant lawbreaking on West and East Bay.
As for us....we are having and unbelievble year. 13, 17, 19 bird days. No mergs....good ole bluebills, redheads, goldeneyes and others. We have taken a number of woodies, ringers and grey ducks for those that prefer lake hunting.
I'm booked every weekend between now and the end of season, all regulars that continue shoot birds each time we go. I can fit one or two people in here and there but if you can do it, try to shoot for a week day.
I have to admit that I don't get to fish much this time of year because of all my duck hunts. February is a great fishing month, two years ago in February we jumped some tarpon in Warren Bayou.
Although I have moved more toward catering to families the last several years I intend to get a shallow draft boat this spring to fish skinny water like I did 12 years ago when I started guiding.
There are plenty of fish out there for everyone. Be courtious to others while on the water.
Hope everyone has a great new year.
See you on the water.
