Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

June has been just Awesome and I'm betting July will follow suite. I've been Snapper fishing every day during the month of June, there's not a shortage of Red Snapper here in the northwest panhandle.
The largest fish so far goes to Bobby Whit from Rossville Ga. she landed the fish on June 15thand it weighed in at 18.6 pounds.
The Passes are holding some real nice Red Fish, especially Pensacola Pass. Work the pass on a good moving tide either in or out and drift live pin fish or croakers real close to the bottom. The fish will move in behind the rock piles to stay out of the current while the current delivers them there daily supply of food.
Just off the beaches and around any near shore structure you can find King Mackerel. Slow troll live baits on small wire leaders and you'll be pleased. These fish are not hard to find just look for the bait balls and you'll find the fish.
Large schools of False Albacore are making a good showing in the Gulf also. These fish are great for the fly casters, use the small gummy minnows to match the hatch and strip the line as fast as you can. Better keep your fingers out of the reel though, when these speedsters step on the gas it's zero to sixty in about three seconds.
When the conditions are right I've been able to get the Grey Snapper to cooperate. On Sunday June 12 Brian Conley and Jessica Moseley from Buford Ga. found this out. We had them all up on the surface feeding in the chum slick. We had to drop down to twenty pound test fluorocarbon leader and a 4/0 hook hid in the skin of a chunk bait to get them to eat, and we ended up with a nice limit of fish.
There is lots of good fishing this time of the year. Be safe out there and tight lines till next month!
