Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report
Wintertime trout and low water red fishing.
This is just a quick report to let you know what's going on along the Panhandle in Pensacola.
With the windy conditions keeping the bay a little rougher than I prefer, I've been concentrating my fishing in the upper bay areas for trout, reds, and even some flounder. The water level in the upper bay areas is very low because of the winter tides and the north winds. With the extreme lower water levels, I'm finding the fish have staged in areas from 3 –7 ft of water with some even much deeper than that. I've been using the trusty drop-shot rig rigged with a soft plastic like Bass Assassin's white and chartreuse paddle tail. Another good producer is a basic ¼ oz jig head rigged with a soft plastic like Bass Assassin or Gulp. As for the Bass Assassins, I like pearl white paddle tails or a Copperhead sea shad. Gulp colors are Electric Chicken and Camo.
The big reds are still around but not as thick as they were back in November and December. This weekend looks great with much calmer winds and not as cold.
I'll be out both days bowing up on some fun trout and drag screaming reds.
Stay tuned for more reports.
