Pensacola Fishing on the flats - Topwater Fun!

Capt. John Rivers
September 1, 2012
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello, my fellow fishermen, here's a quick report from Pensacola, Florida. I've not been on the water the past few days due to Hurricane Isaac. It made landfall around Grand Isle, Louisiana on Tuesday, and we got a lot of rain on Monday and lots of wind. Today is Thursday (8-30-2012) and the wind is still blowing 30 + mph here. It's not been too bad for us for the most part.

I should be back on the water by the weekend.
I'll be checking some areas to see how good the trout and redfish bite is faring. Before the storm moved in to the Gulf, I was out on the water in the upper bay areas stalking trout and reds on the flats. I had a couple pretty good catches, but can't wait to get out and see if the bite has improved.
The lures I tossed were mostly top-waters and suspending twitch baits (MirrOlure's). I also had a couple of rods rigged with soft plastics Jerk-shads.

Like I said I'll be back out this weekend and next week so check back around Sept. 7th for a new report and some great pics.
I hope everyone who was in the path of Hurricane / Tropical Storm Isaac is ok and stays safe this Labor Day weekend.

The bite was good on this trip, but they only wanted a few for dinner. So we let the rest go to be caught another day.
