Panhandle Fishing Report - Pensacola Bay & Choctawhatchee Bay

Capt. Eddie Woodall
June 4, 2007
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

May has been quite the month, the last 16 days of the month the wind blew out of the east at 15 to 20 mph everyday! Man, somebody over on the east coast needs to turn off that big fan! Finally, the wind shifted over the weekend to 20 mph out of the west, I guess I better watch out what I’m asking for.

Anyway, the wind hasn’t stopped us from fishing and catching. The Speckled Trout bite has been just ok, we’re not catching big numbers of fish , but I am catching some nice fish along the way.

Cliff & Dallas with a nice Speck.

I don’t know if you know it or not but I love catching big fish, whether it’s a 20 pound Red Snapper on 30 pound tackle or a 10 pound Speck on 8 pound tackle it’s all the same BIG FISH ON LIGHT TACKLE is the only way to go fishing!!!!check out this big Speck -

I’ve done two TV shows in the last two weeks; on May 23rd I had Benny Hull the Stump Bumper from Rossville Ga. here. We had our trip scheduled to fish in the Gulf for Red Snapper but due to the high winds and rough seas we were inshore fishing. We were able to put together a good day catching Red Fish and I’m looking forward to seeing the show. His show airs on Comcast channel 46 and the CW of Chattanooga WB53.

Yesterday, I had a film crew onboard from the TV fishing and hunting show Southern Woods -n- Waters. The two hosts Durell & Greg were a blast to fish with. We also had a good day; we were inshore fishing for Speckled Trout and Red Fish. The show will air on the CSS network on Comcast cable; I’ll post the dates and times when they become available.

The Kings and Spanish Mackerel are here and doing well around the sea buoys in Pensacola Pass. The sea conditions have kept most anglers from fishing for them. I got the opportunity to fish with four of the famed Fishin’ Chix in a tournament last Saturday and man did these ladies know how to fish; we did well. We caught six Kings and lots of Spanish. One of the ladies finished in second place with a five-pound Spanish.

I have a few afternoon slots open for the month of June and July is starting to book up, so if your interested in experiencing the fabulous fishing the northwest Gulf of Mexico has to offer give me a call.

I know one thing for sure - You ain’t going to catch’em sittin’ on the couch!!

So get out there, and take a kid fishing.

Tight Lines and Screaming Drags, Till Next Time! God Bless.
