Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

I’d like to start this report with a word of thanks to all the people that have made a dream come true for my family and myself. I’d like to start with thanking God for all the many blessing and good health that he has given me! Then without the support from my loving wife and family, my being a Fishing Guide would still be a dream. It takes a lot of hard team work and schedule juggling to make things happen around the house, but some way she gets it done, and very well I might add. Then to all my sponsors that help keep my cost of doing business in control, Mann’s Bait Co., Power Pro, Pure Fishing (ABU Garcia, Berkley, Fenwick Mitchell, Johnson, Spider and 7-Strand are all under Pure Fishing), Calusa Cast Nets, D.O.A. Lures, Gamakatsu and Eagle Claw.
Inshore For the past 2 weeks the wind and weather front’s have kept the fishing just that, FISHING with very little catching going on. On average the number of Speck’s caught are around 5 to 10 a day, with most being in the slot size, the Reds have been a little more dependable, there are so many crabs on the flats right now I can see why there is such a great Red population in our area. After these fronts settle down into a regular pattern like the last three days, things on the flats will start to improve greatly! The Flounder are still hanging out in the Pass, the best baits are small Bull Minnows and Shrimp drifted on the bottom, don’t be surprised if you get bit by something that takes you in a rock pile, the Gag Grouper are eating in the Pass also.
Near shore Well this is another story, if you’re not catching, you’re not fishing! Just about any species of fish can be found right now, in the Pass we are catching Kings and Spanish Mackerel, and schools of Jacks are showing up regularly, I have had several shots at Tarpon with no success yet, but it won’t be long before you will see some photos of the first Tarpon of the season! Then out just a little and we are catching Mahi Mahi, Red Snapper, Grouper, Kings, False Albacore, yesterday we caught 9 Amberjack between 20 and 50 pounds, and I can’t recall how many made it to the wreck and cut us off, lets put it this way, I only have 1 three oz. weight left! 2 huge Jack Crevalle, had a big Cobia on for 30 minuets, then broke it off at the boat and several sharks, then a little father out I’m getting good reports of nice catches of Wahoo and Yellow and Black Fin Tuna. What else, oh yea, the Marlin are showing up, there have been several hooked around the Nipple and Spur.
Let’s Go Fishing!
Till next time, tight lines and screaming drags! God Bless.
