Panhandle Fishing Report - Pensacola Bay & Choctawhatchee Bay

Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

FANTASTIC WAY TO END THE YEAR!!!!

Catching the Bull Reds is what they wanted to do and they did it in a big way! Bob and his son Jason Ulseth came down from Atlanta last Saturday and boy did they hit it just right. We put the boat in at Shoreline Park at 09:00 and had only gone about 200 yards before they had a double on- 2 nice bronze beauties to start the day. By the time we landed these 2 fish the school had gone down so we headed to Pensacola Bay where I have been catching a ton of fish. It didn’t take long before we were on a big school of fish. We were able to stay with these fish for two and a half hours. Jason claimed he had landed over 20 fish himself and Bob and I had at least that many between us. What a beautiful day, the weather was just perfect! I asked them if I could carry them out into the Gulf for a look around to see if we could find some fish out there. Jason was a little hesitant; you know it’s just not right to leave feeding fish he replied. He just didn’t know what I had in store for him! As we made our way out, the Gulf was as flat as it could be. I knew what was in store for us, but again they both had no idea. We headed to the south east, but spotted no fish - I suggested we head a little to the west and if we couldn’t find any fish we would go back into the Bay and get back on the fish we left. It wasn’t long -about 2 miles before I spotted birds diving on bait, I pointed them out to Jason and a big smile came upon his face. As we approached the action, the water was just boiling as the fish were ambushing bait. To make a long story short we spent the next 3 hours catching fish - one after another. Bob and I had just given out, neither one of us could hardly hold a rod, but Jason just couldn’t get enough. It was unbelievable!! We were seeing school after school of thousands of these HUGH BULL REDS. I asked Jason if he was still keeping up with how many fish we had caught, as it was getting towards the end of the day. His answer was- it had to be over 80 fish that we had actually released and didn’t know how many more we had on that we didn’t land. It was an awesome day. Needless to say, I love it when a plan comes together!

It’s hard to believe what an awesome fishery we have here in Northwest Florida, and there are 2 more believers now! Just ask Bob and Jason.

All fish were released unharmed, as the smallest fish was about 30”- all the rest were between 25 and 40 pounds.

A special thanks to a couple of my good friends Bob and Jason for a wonderful day of catching.

I’ll end with a Holiday Greetings to all, and till next year a good night!

I know one thing for sure-- you ain’t going to catch’em sittin on the couch.

So get out there, and take a kid fishing!

Screaming Drags till next time, God Bless.
