Sheepshead showing up in Pensacola Bay

Capt. Chris Phillips
February 26, 2017
Pensacola - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been unreal lately, it honestly couldn't be much more enjoyable for a day of inshore fishing.

There's been a few sheepshead around for the past month, but not enough to invest a whole trip strictly target them. This week we started seeing better numbers of fish and it should be long before they make their arrival in Pensacola Pass.

They always hang around structure so you want to look for them around bridges, deep docks, jetties, or rock piles.

If you're going after them live shrimp or fiddler crabs are a must and you always want to use a fluorocarbon leader with a small circle of J hook. I personally prefer the Eagle Claw 084 #4 hook with a 20 pound leader.

Sheepshead are one of the very best eating fish we catch in the Florida panhandle. They are one of few fish that are great just about any way you cook them, baked, grilled, or fried.

We are a full service charter business with both offshore and inshore boats. A variety of different species are targeted on our inshore trips including redfish, trout, flounder, sharks, and mackerel, but our specialty is fishing for red snapper and gag grouper in Pensacola Bay. We are the very best in the best business when it comes to inshore bottom fishing! On offshore charters we'll target snapper, grouper, mackerel, marlin, tuna, and sharks.
