Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing report for the week ending 8/30/09 even though the weather is still hot I am seeing signs of fall coming, tarpon are starting to group up and a few pompano have showed up on the grass beds.Fishing this week with Geoff Hancock and his family from England we have seen a good mix of trout, pompano ladyfish, jacks and snapper on the grass flats in 3-6ft of water Geoff caught all on fly. We had the oportunity to fish several pods of tarpon one of which ate a fly and then shook it out on one quick jump. We could see that these fish had been back in the bays by the black backs they had. There are still a few schooling snook on the beaches but not as many as in May and June a lot of these fish are sluggish in the heat of the day fishing early morning and late afternoon is best.
