Hitting on all cylinders

Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 4/25/2010

Another great week of fishing in the books, we are hitting on all cylinders now with water temperatures approaching 80 finally.
The spring trout, mackerel and bluefish are off the charts with good slot fish fighting each other to get live bait at times. Both Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay have areas in the mixed sand and grass bottoms where you can sit for hours at a time catching fish on almost every cast.
This has been a great thing to go to on trips because it's a for sure thing under the right conditions, incoming tide has been the best.

Snook have been spotty at times but when you can get them going they are good. The sure sign of summer on the way is mangrove snapper showing up, my favorite for dinner, they are good size and very aggressive.
Redfish have been of the smaller variety but later in the week with strong south winds and higher than normal tides good slot fish were on mangrove shorelines and around oysterbars.
Live shinners have made me hide all my plastics and plugs and are here to stay.
Tarpon are showing up on the beaches and in the Sound, the reports I got were they are spotty at best and the windy days made it very difficult to find them. My first tarpon trip is Friday and I am kind of glad it was a little late this year with our crazy weather and water temps.
The weather looks good for this week and I still have a few openings for Tarpon and bay trips.
