March weather in April

Capt. Gary Clark
April 11, 2010
Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 4/11/2010

Calm winds early in the week gave way to some breezy but good days to fish this week, there were a couple of times when the wind made moving from spot to spot a challenge.
Shinners have become much more plentiful as the week went on and are here to stay. Seatrout have been good in and around the causeway, in Sancarlos bay and Pine Island Sound. Anywhere you can find a grass and sand mixed bottom in 3-6ft. Of water. White redfish magic is still outfishing live bait and giving us some nice three and four pound fish. There have been some of the best trout fishing so far this year. I have also caught some of the biggest trout on suspending mirrolures. While trout fishing on Friday we did have one come in bitten in half which shows the shark population is on the rise. Ther was a bit of a drop off of spanish mackeral and bluefish but they should be back in the next week.

With a late season cool front arriving on Friday and a northeast wind building in behind it the redfish and snook were suprisingly slow on Saturday due mostly to tides that never got very high. I have had a couple of Tarpon sightings, one off Captiva and the other in Matlacha pass, I am sure there are some fish beginning to show up offshore but the wind is in there favor for now.
As I am typing this report on Sunday it is raining and windy, looks like the fish will get a break today.
Tight Lines.
