Big snook and beautiful weather

Capt. Cliff Simer

Pine Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Big snook are showing up all over. Although our snook are still closed for taking home here on the west coast of Florida, they are a blast to catch. Anglers ask me all the time, what do they fight like? It is a simple answer for me. Snook fight like large mouth bass on steroids times 10. They jump and make runs for the trees or any nearby structure. Big snook are big for a reason. They use sudden burst of energy to pull that extra line out just enough to get you wrapped up and around mangrove roots or any underwater structure that they live near. It is like they know excactly what they need to do to be free. Once you hook into a big snook, whether you get it to the boat or not, your addicted. They are by far my favorite to fish for.
