Outstanding May Fishing

Capt. Mike Busse
May 12, 2017
Pompano Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

All I can say is fishing has been outstanding. We have caught a variety of fish the past few weeks. Most of the fishing has been on the edge where we have caught big kingfish, blackfin tuna, sailfish and mahi (dolphin). We have also ventured offshore a few times to target only mahi (dolphin). Some days are better than others. We still have not seen a very big push of mahis, but have been fortunate in catching a few nice gaffers.

We had a charter last Wednesday that wanted to catch mahi. They never caught a mahi (dolphin) before so the pressure was on. We started by rolling a few baits around some weed offshore. Within ten minutes we had our first hook up. A nice eight pound mahi. We continued to troll for another hour with no other bites. We decided to do a little running around to see if we could locate some bigger patches of weed to fish to, that were holding some mahi. As we were running we saw a frigate bird diving off our bow. We eased over and saw a big bull dolphin. We pitched a live bait to him and he instantly ate it and the fight was on. Nothing like seeing a big dolphin jump and fight on twenty pound spinning tackle. As we got the big dolphin close to the boat we tossed out another live bait in hopes of catching his mate. Luck was with us as we were hooked up to the female mahi. We boated both fish and a few more that day. High fives were in order as they fulfilled there quest of catching their first mahi.

The next few months should continue to produce big blackfin tuna, kingfish and mahi. So give me a call or send me an email so we can get you hooked up. I still have a few dates still open in May and have June only half booked.

Catch Em Up,
