Port Canaveral 04/30/10 Offshore Fishing

Port Canaveral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report 04/30/10 (Thursday)

With no Charter booked this day, and sea's calling for 1-2', which they actually were, unlike the 2-3' forecast the day before that actually topped 7', I decided to take the family out for some relaxing and fun fishing. With a 5yo, a day of trolling was not to be, but non-stop bottom action kept her from being bored. Having to pay the gas bill myself, I started at 8A, and despite a parking lot half full when we left, we saw relativly few boats at the reef. Likely they headed to deeper waters for Mahi, given the calm conditions. A few boats were there slowing trolling for Kings, including commercial boats, and as such, only a few smaller ones were seen.

We wanted to bring tasty fish home for dinner, and keep our young one happy, so our lines went to the bottom. Red Snapper were abundant, and mostly over 20", which only makes the 'blood boil' haveing to release them. Lane Snapper were the keepable snapper of the day, and of coarse Triggers and SeaBass which are still some of the best tasting fish that can be caught. While drifting the reef, we kept the flatlines out for Kings, but we have been getting Mahi to take the bait on the last few trips. We was going to head out few a few hours of trolling, but the wind kicked up, and though not large, the sea's got very choppy, so since it was a family fun day, we headed in.
