Port Canaveral 4-14-10 offshore report

Port Canaveral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report 04-24-10

With a family of 5 down on vacation, and not a lot of fishing experiance, we headed to
8A reef to primarily bottom fish. If the sea's were not too rough, and their 'stomach's' were
up to it we were going to shoot out for a little trolling.

The winds and sea's had picked up overnight, but with conditions getting worse in the next
few day's, we opted for Saturday, rather than chance not having any better day's before their
vacation ended. Saturday had more boaters heading out from Port Canaveral than any day this
year. At 6:00am the line of boats and trailers was nearly to the highway. The parking lot was
already half full, and by the time we returned to port at 12:20, they were into the overflow parking.

We were one of the first to arrive at 8A, and we quickly set anchor. It did'nt take long before dozens of other boats were around us. Many were slow trolling for Kings, Others, from what I heard back at the dock when we came in, opted for this closer to Port area, with the sea's rougher than expected.

The 'Bait-Stealers' were fierce at the reef, but larger fish were marking below. We managed to keep
the bait on the line long enough to hook up some Trigger's, and mangrove Snapper. Red Snapper
were as always, abundant. The flat line and chum managed to get an unexpected, but welcomed
addition to the ice-box, a nice MahiMahi. We had freelined a flatlined large sardine on a King-Rig
in our clum slick, hoping for a King, but we did not mind one bit taking a 'Phin' back instead.

The sea's were not that large, but choppy, and it had it's affect on a couple menbers of my clients
family, so they made the call to return to Port. Many other boats apparently returned early as a
result of rough sea's. The ones we saw at the cleaning table, that were targeting Kings and Dolphin did well.

My guest were glad to be back on dry land, but also happy to have done something they had never
done before, and come back with good eating fish. After cleaning the fish, they took a generous
portion of each spesis to Grills to have it prepared for lunch. It does not get any fresher than that. There is not too many places that you can walk from the Boat, to the cleaning table to the resturant to eat your catch!
