Shark fishing Cocoa Beach charters

Port Canaveral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Shark fishing has continued to provide some awesome action and excitement. We have seen a big influx of the offshore sandbar sharks lately. These species of shark are normally the annoying large sharks that are known to eat ½ your kingfish many times while offshore. I'm not sure as to why there are so many so close to the beach. Possibly breeding? And when I say close to the beach, I am talking about 6 feet of water. Many of the Sandbar sharks actually have a long liners circle hook in the corner of their mouth, so you know they were at least 80 miles out. This is a good thing for our customers because of the constant action with sharks over the 100lb class. Also in the mix has been a lot of sand tiger sharks. They're a lot of fun as well and the teeth on these sharks are kinda just poking out all over the place and make for great pictures. They look very vicious.

We have been using everything for bait. Sharks will eat almost anything. The odd thing is I have not had any luck with what I thought would be the best bait ever, week old nasty stinky bonita. I thought the bait would be sure to attract the biggest thing out there but never got a bite on it. Turns out they are actually kind of picky. They love it fresh! Just like you, lol . The fresher and the bloodier! Just like a nice prime rib. Bait can include bonita, kingfish, Spanish macs, bluefish and ladyfish Just to name a few. Next month a little about the rigging and tackle used. Good luck and enjoy.
