Tough Weather Week

Capt. John McDow
March 11, 2012
Port St. Joe - Saltwater Fishing Report

After a week of rain and wind things finally cleared up on Saturday and allowed us to get in a half day trip. We still had to battle East winds of 15-20 knots and some cooler temps but we were able to find a lot of decent sized fish. We caught most of the trout about a mile North of Blacks Island in the deep water flats. They ran from 15-19". In addition to the trout we hooked into a nice red on the West side of the Island but lost him at the boat (probably around 7#) We also found a ton of bluefish and a few spanish in the channels. We could have caught them all day. If the wind hadn't been so bad they would have been a blast on the fly rod.

Port St. Joe Fishing Forecast:

Water temps in the Blacks Island area have reached 66 degrees. A couple more weeks and the fishing should get really good. I expect the action from the trout to pick up. Spanish will also be thick in the channels and at the mouth of the bay in the next couple of weeks. I love this time of year. Another month and we will be chasing Cobia!

Target Species:

Trout, Redfish
