Bottom fishing South Fla

Capt. Mark Rosen

Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a father and son trip, we headed to a spot 2 miles south of the snapper hole I wanted to check out. The seas were flat and clarity great we easily had 40 feet of visibility. The fishing there was slow. We tried a few spots around the numbers I had showed fish on the bottom machine but not much of a catch. I have a lot of spots marked in the snapper hole area, so we started working are way north spot by spot. Finally we had some real nice looking bottom with a lot of fish mid-point in the water column. The guys started bottom fishing and I put out a live grunt on a float with 15 foot of leader. The grunt was out there about 5 min when it got hit and a nice lesser amber jack was on. I put another grunt out and rigged the bait runner spinning rod with a grunt and they tossed that out. In no time we had 2 more amber jacks fighting we were able to boat both of them. By the end we boated 8 lesser amber jacks. They also caught a nice collection of trigger fish. At the end of the day we headed to the reef along North Hutchison Island in 25 feet of water. By this point the sea had built to 3 feet and the baits weren't presenting well as well as the crew being tired so we headed to the dock
