Great Day at the snapper hole

Capt. Mark Rosen
November 22, 2018
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I took a charter out on Tuesday we started at the reef along the beach it was pretty quiet so we moved out to the reef at 50 feet very little bait around and also pretty quiet so we continued out to the north end of the snapper hole in 80 feet of water. The water clarity was about 20 feet sea temperature was 79 degrees. There was a very slight current we were able to hold with 5 to 6 ounces of lead and my minkota trolling motor was barley working to hold our position. The catch was steady all day long lots of shorts and grunts but enough nice fish to keep it very interesting I made several moves throughout the day ending in 90 feet of water. In the last hour of the trip a school of dolphin came by the boat. We tossed frozen sardines to them on light rods and the fight was on the fish were all between 16 and 22 "most were under the 20" minimum we caught and released at least a dozen but did get to keep 2 the largest was 22" the other just over 20" By the end of the day we had a cooler full of lane snapper, had released a bunch of vermilion snapper all were under size, had caught a dozen gray trigger fish 3 were legal the largest was 18". Caught and released 5 red snapper, caught and released a red grouper. And caught a nice 20" mutton snapper.
