Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report
I took a family of 3 out tone of my favorite spots just north of the snapper hole, for a day of bottom fishing. We were electronically anchored in 90 feet of water, the seas were flat, the water clarity was between 50 and 60 feet, and sea surface temperature was 81 degrees. It was a little slow at first lots of grunts and small vermilion snappers. I made a mover 250 feet away. I put a live grunt on the bottom and 2 live grunts on the top. The grunt on the bottom got real active so I had the son (12 year old) pick up the rod and get ready. Soon it was taking some line so we slowly locked up the lever drag and the fight was on when he got it to the surface I netted nice grouper measuring in at 32". They were also now catching larger trigger fish. Measuring in between 18" and 22", we boated 6 of those. I saw a dolphin checking out one of the live baits nearest the boat. He wasn't biting so I tossed him a sardine on a spinner rod. He hit it right way, I handed the rod to the mom she fought it for 15 minutes before losing the fish. The dolphin jumped several times. A few minutes later another dolphin came in and hit the live bait. He took off that rod was handed to the dad. I came off anchor and we chased him down. The fish jumped 5 times. He finally got him to the boat and I gaffed him the fish measured 49". Throughout the day they also got several keeper vermilion snapper and a few lane snapper.
