Red Grouper for dinner

Capt. Mark Rosen
December 23, 2017
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

Took a 3 person group out to the snapper hole, the weather doesn't get better then this for December flat seas. The sea surface temperature was 75 degrees clarity was a bit cloudy with only about 10 feet of visibility. There was action all day long the first fish on board was a nice 23" red grouper. The group caught lots of grunts as usual which we used for both live bait and cut bait along with cut squid and cut barracuda chinks. The grouper and most of the other fish were caught on a chicken rig. I make the rigs with 3/0 hooks and 40 or 50 pound andy line. We were using 6 ounces of lead to hold bottom. My Minkota I-Pilot held us on spot all day. We caught a lot of Lane snapper as well as vermilion snapper and yellow tail snapper. There were lots of trigger fish as well. We also caught 2 other red grouper but they were undersized and released.
