South Indian River Fishing Report

Capt. Charlie Conner
September 8, 2014
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore:

The weather has continued to be hot, but nice fishing conditions on the river this past week. Afternoon storms will be the norm for a while as we continue the transition into fall weather patterns. The mullet run is in full swing around the area and the fish are hungry to feast on the bounty. The bit has been good for us this week and it should continue the rest of the month for us.

I was out with Capt. Adam White this week for a scouting trip. We found that the best bite was on the incoming tide on the grass flats. The trout were hungry for top water lures and CAL shad tails. It was good to see the trout bite picking up with all the bait in the river. Adam even boated a slot redfish to top off our day. I helped out with the September Treasure Coast Caster's Tournament this week. Dylora Kohler and Tyler Bostic on the boat for the tournament. Both caught a good number of fish. Tyler checked in with two mangrove snapper and a Spanish mackerel. Dylora came in with a redfish, two trout, a mangrove snapper and a Spanish mackerel. Dylora took first place in the high school division and Tyler came in second in the middle school division. Congratulations to all the Casters on a successful fishing day!

It's been fun this week. Lots of jacks and ladyfish all over the area to keep anglers busy. Spanish mackerel around the inlet that will hit anything small and shiny. Lots of snapper around structure. A good trout bite on DOA lures, top water and live bait. Snook fishing has been good at night with the full moon. The beaches have held tarpon, snook, jacks and other predators feeding on the mullet schools along the surf. September is always an exciting month to enjoy the fishing along the Treasure Coast!

As always, remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!!

Good Fishing and Be Safe,
Captain Charlie Conner
