Trolling at the Amazon Wreck

Capt. Mark Rosen
April 5, 2017
Port St. Lucie - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a son and his 82 year old dad on the boat 4 days of fishing. The marine forecast was wrong 3 out of the 4 days but thanks to the sea buoy I was able to determine that despite the forecast we could fish. The first day we went bottom fishing at the off shore reef near the Amazon wreck. They caught several nice size trigger fish and a few nice snapper. There were a lot of short trigger fish as well as a lot of short vermilion snappers. I put live lines up on top and we caught 3 dolphins all around the 25 to 30 inch. The second day we trolled the offshore artificial reef starting at the 80 foot and trolling deeper I started at the southern end and with each turn moved slightly north. We were trolling rigged ballyhoos and plastic lures I had a pattern of 5 lines out. We had a spectacular day with 7 dolphin 3 were released due to size, 2 bonita, one was very large both released, and a barracuda also released. The third day we went to the same place lots more weed in the area as well as a lot more boats in the area and didn't have a knock down I tried trolling deeper and we even tried drifting bait into the weed. On the fourth and final day of their trip we trolled the same place and had 9 bontia several that were very large fish all of them were released.
